What's inside
&Recommended by Brandon-Hill. The fourth edition of this massive two-volume textbook features the addition of chapters on liver diseases; the remaining chapters have been revised and about a third have been re-written by new authors. The text is divided into four major areas: basic mechanisms of normal and abnormal function, approaches to common problems, diseases, and diagnostic and therapeutic modalities. Each of the 162 chapters is organized in an outline form, with numerous headings, and a lengthy list of references. There are several chapters each on topics that include motility; nutrition; and diseases of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon, pancreas, gallbladder, liver, and abdominal cavity. Topics of individual chapters include parasitic diseases, intestinal ischemia, sedation, clinical decision making, enteroscopy, and angiography. The contributors practice mainly in the US, however, some are in Australia, the UK, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Canada. Annotation ©2003 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
