What's inside
Learning and Behavior: Active Learning Edition, Eighth Edition by Paul Chance and Ellen Furlong — Published by Cengage
This clear, engaging text invites students to examine learning through an evolutionary lens, demonstrating how learning has evolved as a biological mechanism to aid in survival. Embracing a scientific approach to studying behavior, the book features updated content, numerous learning features, and current examples that strengthen comprehension. Timely research demonstrates the relevance of the material as students explore concepts such as "nature via nurture" and the co-dependency of ontogeny and phylogeny. The Eighth Edition also includes one of today's clearest explanations of the Rescorla-Wagner model, while new learning objectives and updated Concept Checks keep students focused and ensure understanding before progressing. All content corresponds with the latest edition of the APA Publication Manual.
Dr. Paul Chance began his career as a school teacher before moving to the college level, where he taught at Salisbury University in Maryland and as an adjunct at California Polytechnic State University. He has served as Book Review Editor for Psychology Today magazine and is a senior fellow of the Cambridge Center for Behavioral Studies. Dr. Ellen Furlong earned her Ph.D. in psychology at Ohio State University and is an animal cognition scholar and animal welfare advocate whose research focuses on the evolutionary origins of human and animal cognition, decision-making, and number cognition. She joined the faculty at Illinois Wesleyan University in two thousand thirteen , where she also directs the IWU Dog Scientists, a research group exploring cognition in dogs and zoo animals.
